Alef Aeronautics designs and develops the world's first real flying car, a vehicle designed to drive on the street, take off vertically when needed, and fly overhead above traffic without the need for runways. The vehicle is driven by proprietary technology that enables vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) using a distributed propulsion system with redundancies and industry-leading software to deliver a safe, affordable transformation of everyday commuting. Alef differentiates itself from other eVTOL and flying car companies through its dual-mode design: the vehicle functions as a normal street-legal car that can be driven on roads, and when traffic is encountered, it can take off vertically and fly over it, combining ground transportation and aerial mobility in a single vehicle. This approach addresses the first-mile and last-mile problem that plagues pure eVTOL designs, which require dedicated landing infrastructure at both origin and destination. The company has demonstrated actual flying car test flights and is focused on delivering a safe, affordable vehicle for everyday commuters. Founded in 2015 and headquartered in San Mateo, California, Alef Aeronautics has raised approximately $5.5 million in a Seed round backed by Draper, DraperB1, Santa Clara Ventures, and Impact Venture Capital.
