About

Avisi Technologies is a medical device company developing nanotechnology-enabled implants for treating glaucoma, the leading cause of irreversible blindness. The company's flagship product, VisiPlate, is an investigational next-generation aqueous shunt designed to lower intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma. VisiPlate features a network of microchannels that control aqueous drainage from the anterior chamber, is several times thinner than a human hair for greater patient comfort and aesthetics, and is composed of alumina and Parylene-C to minimize foreign body response and reduce scarring risk. The company leverages MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) manufacturing and advanced micro-fabrication techniques to create minimally invasive devices at the forefront of glaucoma treatment. Avisi's proprietary ultrathin, freestanding material technology was invented at the University of Pennsylvania. The company is conducting the SAPPHIRE pivotal clinical trial with FDA IDE approval to evaluate the VisiPlate device. Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Avisi Technologies has raised $15.7M in Series A funding from investors including MedTech Innovator, America's Seed Fund, LSGPA, Accanto Partners, Ben Franklin Technology Partners, Quaker Capital Investments, Good Growth Capital, Mountain State Capital, Life Science Angels, Gaingels, National Science Foundation, MedVenture Partners, Sherpa Venture Capital, and Gemseki.
