Carbicrete

Carbicrete develops technology enabling cement-free concrete production using industrial by-products. The process substitutes cement with steel slag and injects CO2 into fresh concrete, sequestering carbon dioxide within the finished products. Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Westmount, Canada, Carbicrete has raised $22M in Series A funding from investors including Sustainable Development Technology Canada, Innovobot, Harsco, and Fonds de solidarite FTQ. The company licenses its process to concrete makers, enabling them to produce carbon-negative concrete while repurposing steel industry waste. Carbicrete's technology addresses the significant carbon footprint of cement production, which accounts for approximately 8% of global CO2 emissions, by eliminating cement entirely from the concrete manufacturing process.
