About
Carbonova is a cleantech company that converts greenhouse gas emissions into high-performance carbon nanomaterials. The company patented catalytic process uses CO2, methane, and waste heat to create tangible carbon materials that enhance industries like construction, composites, and batteries. The technology delivers superior performance with stronger and more conductive materials, is affordable and scalable, achieves a net-negative carbon footprint, and enables easy integration into existing applications. Carbonova energy use is 100x lower than competitors at less than 1 kWh/kg, and each kilogram of nanofiber produced removes CO2 from the atmosphere. The company serves three main industries: plastics, where nanomaterials create lighter, stronger, and more sustainable composites with increased toughness, tensile strength, and elongation; lithium-ion batteries, where nanomaterials improve energy density, charging speed, and battery lifespan; and construction, where nanomaterials enhance concrete compressive strength, durability through hydrophobic repulsion, crack resistance, and thermal and corrosion protection. Carbonova is commissioning Canada first Carbon Nanofiber Commercial Demonstration Unit in Calgary, supported by a C.1 million equity financing round and C.38 million in grant funding from Emissions Reduction Alberta. Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Calgary, Canada, Carbonova has raised approximately 9.6 million at the Series A stage with investors including Sustainable Development Technology Canada, Kolon Industries, Natural Gas Innovation Fund, ERA, Urban Future Lab, Innovate Calgary, Startup TNT, and Holcim Accelerator.
