About
Concrete4Change, now operating as Vateris, develops a process technology platform that converts CO2 from industrial flue gas into vaterite-based calcium carbonate performance materials. The company's plug-in carbon capture and utilization (CCU) process redirects flue gas from industrial plants including cement, lime, and chemicals, reacting CO2 with calcium from gypsum inside its reactors to form calcium carbonate, while the remaining sulfate from gypsum is utilized to generate a high-purity fertilizer. This process creates two high-performance, carbon-negative materials: GypCarb, a cutting-edge vaterite-based calcium carbonate for concrete that delivers best-in-class performance while permanently mineralizing CO2 within the concrete matrix, increasing strength and reducing embodied carbon; and Premium SOP, a high-grade sulfate fertilizer designed for premium agricultural applications that improves supply chain resilience. The technology is the only solution able to utilize flue gas CO2 and abundant calcium-rich sources to create these materials, with seamless integration into existing industrial CO2 sources requiring no changes to cement or concrete production processes. Vateris serves customers including Holcim, Goldbeck, Heidelberg Materials, Cemex, Panthera, and Marshalls, with trials demonstrating the ability to reduce cement content while maintaining necessary early strength for precast concrete. The company has received strategic investments from Holcim and Kiilto. Founded in 2021 and headquartered in Nottingham, United Kingdom, the company has raised $5.7M in seed funding from investors including Sustainable Ventures, Zacua Ventures, Counteract, Europa, Plug and Play Tech Center, Aurum, Seedrs, Nexter, and SDGx.
