DermaSensor is a medical device company that has developed the first and only FDA-cleared, AI-powered device for automated skin cancer detection. The handheld device uses Elastic Scattering Spectroscopy (ESS) to shine light beneath a lesion's surface and analyze scattered light reflectance patterns from cellular and sub-cellular features, including nuclear size, chromatin condensation, and collagen organization. A proprietary machine learning algorithm then assesses malignancy risk for melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma with 96% sensitivity. The device provides immediate point-of-care results, has been clinically validated to reduce missed cancer referrals by 52%, and has scanned over 45,000 suspicious lesions.
