About
Electrochaea is a clean technology company that develops and commercializes biomethanation technology for producing grid-quality e-methane at commercial scale. The company uses patented methanogenic archaea to convert green hydrogen and carbon dioxide into low-carbon synthetic methane through a power-to-gas process, achieving 98.5 percent CO2 conversion efficiency. The resulting e-methane can be injected directly into existing gas grids, transported to third-party consumers, used to power on-site operations, or liquefied into eLNG. The technology operates under mild process conditions with modular, scalable architecture capable of functioning at 100+ MWe scale to produce approximately 400 GWh of clean e-methane, and features excellent load-following capabilities and high tolerance to CO2 feed gas contaminants. Electrochaea provides in-house techno-economic assessments, technology transfer and licensing agreements, on-site commissioning, and operator training. The company has partnered with Baker Hughes for commercial-scale deployment and with Hitachi for Japan first biomethanation plant. Founded in 2010 and headquartered in Planegg, Germany, Electrochaea has raised approximately $40.9 million through Series D funding from investors including Baker Hughes, Energie 360, Storengy, KfW, and Munich Venture Partners.
