Gridware develops a real-time grid intelligence platform called Active Grid Response (AGR) that provides electric utilities with constant visibility into electrical, physical, and environmental conditions by capturing information directly at the utility pole. The platform addresses the critical problem of Hazard Awareness Delay, the gap between when a grid hazard occurs and when utilities learn about it, which typically happens only after outages or disasters have occurred. AGR enables immediate detection, precise localization, detailed identification, and monitoring during outages, allowing utilities to identify hazards like fallen limbs, damaged power lines, and equipment failures before they cause disruptions or public safety risks. The platform supports four primary applications: fault prevention to detect issues before they cause outages, power restoration to help crews get to the right location with the right gear and information, hazard response for managing active emergencies, and asset management to extend the life of field assets. Gridware has accumulated over 90 million field hours of operation, detecting small changes that lead to big problems. The company partners directly with utility companies to make the grid safer, smarter, and more responsive, with technology developed in partnership with utility crews and built by a lineman for linemen. Founded in 2020 and headquartered in San Francisco, California, with an Applied Research Complex in Richmond, California, Gridware has raised approximately $97.3 million in Series B funding from investors including Sequoia Capital, Tiger Global, Generation Investment Management, TRAC, Y Combinator, True Ventures, Lowercarbon Capital, Convective Capital, and Wireframe Ventures.
