These membranes are integrated into advanced reactors and separators that recover up to 98% of hydrogen from carrier molecules. H2SITE offers two product categories: membrane separators for gas infrastructure management, natural hydrogen extraction, hydrogen storage, and purification applications; and membrane reactors for ammonia on-board cracking, ammonia imports, ammonia industry and mobility, and waste-to-hydrogen conversion. The technology addresses the fundamental challenge of hydrogen transportation—existing methods add 80-300% to the cost of producing hydrogen—by enabling hydrogen to be transported in easily movable carrier molecules like ammonia, methanol, and syngas, then separated at the point of use with no moving parts and very high conversion efficiency. H2SITE partners with organizations including Petronor for high-purity hydrogen production in refining and has received backing from the European Space Agency and CNES. Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Biscay, Spain, H2SITE has raised approximately $50.3 million in a Series B round backed by ENGIE New Ventures, Breakthrough Energy, Equinor, Tecnalia, Hy24, MassMutual Ventures, Enagas, Exergon, Ezten, SPRI, and Suma Capital.
