Lignin Industries develops bio-based thermoplastic materials by converting lignin, a by-product of the forest and agricultural industries present in all plants, into Renol, proprietary thermoplastic granules that serve as a drop-in material blended with recycled or virgin polymers to replace fossil-based plastics and reduce CO2 emissions. The company transforms lignin by blending it with a biobased oil into thermoplastic granules called Renol, which are mixed into a masterbatch that can be efficiently manufactured on a large scale using existing converting machinery, requiring no new equipment investments from manufacturers. Renol supports end products that are fully circular and works in standard recycling streams, enabling companies to achieve sustainability goals and comply with climate regulations without compromising manufacturing efficiency. The material is applied across multiple polymer systems including LDPE films for e-commerce bags produced with recycled plastics and lignin, polypropylene applications in electronics, construction, home appliances, and automotive, ABS applications in similar industries, and TPE applications. Lignin Industries provides ready-to-use products through trusted partners and collaborates with customers to develop applications that reduce fossil use and lower CO2 emissions across diverse manufacturing sectors. Founded in 2018 and headquartered in Knivsta, Sweden, Lignin Industries has raised approximately $11.1 million at the Series A stage from investors including Euinnovationfund, Europa, Carrickfamily, and Molindo.
