LQUOM develops long-distance quantum communication technology and quantum repeater systems designed to enable the quantum internet, providing theoretically unbreakable secure communication for finance, telemedicine, and defense applications where data security is critical. The company retains all core element technologies necessary for quantum repeater development including quantum entanglement light sources, quantum memory, wavelength conversion, and frequency stabilization, and is currently developing prototype quantum repeaters that will enable long-distance quantum key distribution without the signal amplification limitations of conventional optical networks. LQUOM's quantum repeaters aim to incorporate routing functionality similar to the conventional internet, enabling multi-device communication rather than point-to-point only, and the ability to reroute to safe paths when eavesdropping is detected, based on cutting-edge physics including quantum teleportation and entanglement swapping. The company offers the LQ-PS-100, a cavity-integrated quantum light source specifically designed for quantum relay applications. LQUOM is a deep-tech startup spun out from the Horikiri Laboratory at Yokohama National University, co-founded by CEO Kazuya Niizeki and CSO Tomoyuki Horikiri, with the company name derived from Long-distance Quantum Communication. The company has partnered with SoftBank Corp. to trial entangled photon communication and was selected for NEDO deep-tech startup support. Founded in 2020 and headquartered in Yokohama, Japan, LQUOM has raised approximately $10 million at the Series B stage from investors including SBI Investment, Incubate Fund, JST, Oxide, Macnica, Mitsubishi UFJ Capital, JMTC, Bio-Sight Capital, Anritsu, SMBC Venture Capital, Osaka University Venture Capital, ORIX, Nissay Capital, MPower Partners, and Screen Holdings.
