Fabric Cryptography is a developer of hardware-accelerated cryptography solutions that has created the Verifiable Processing Unit (VPU), a new class of chip that incorporates the best features of GPUs and ASICs to exclusively serve cryptographic purposes. The VPU features a custom silicon design with an on-chip RISC-V multi-core processor enabling native witness generation, a non-blocking network-on-chip with high-speed unified memory architecture, and a custom instruction set with hundreds of number theory units supporting modular arithmetic from 32 to 384 bits, specialized instructions for Goldilocks primes, Barrett reduction for arbitrary primes, and hand-optimized logic for complex hash functions. The product lineup includes the FC 1000 chip with 40 tiles and ultra-wide vector lanes, the VPU 8060 card combining three FC 1000 chips with nearly 1 TB/s of memory bandwidth to 30 GB of memory, and the Byte Smasher server supporting up to 8 VPU 8060 cards delivering over 1 TB/s of recursion-friendly arithmetic hashing. The platform includes an LLVM-based compiler and reconfigurable library of primitives supporting algorithms including plonky2, plonky3, GKR, halo2, Jolt/Lasso, Nova, and TFHE, with partnerships including RISC Zero and Polygon Labs. Founded in 2022 and headquartered in San Francisco, California, Fabric Cryptography has raised $52 million in Series A funding from investors including Blockchain Capital, 1kx, Metaplanet, Offchain Labs, Polygon Ventures, Matter Labs, and Inflection Point Ventures.
