About

Metroweather develops compact Doppler lidar systems and wind forecasting technology for air mobility safety and weather monitoring. Its flagship product, Wind Guardian, is a small-form-factor Doppler lidar that measures wind speed and direction in 3D across a radius of up to 15 km with 0.1 m/s resolution, using infrared laser scattering and Doppler effect signal processing. The company's Wind Foresight system provides high-resolution multi-scale wind forecasts from minutes to days ahead. Core technology originated from approximately 30 years of large radar research at Kyoto University, enabling miniaturization while maintaining performance at dramatically lower costs. Metroweather targets markets including drone operations, aviation safety, urban disaster prevention (guerrilla rainstorms), and offshore wind power assessment. Founded in 2015 and headquartered in Uji, Kyoto, Japan, the company has raised approximately $16.8 million at the Series A stage, with investors including Senshu Ikeda Capital, Okasan Capital Partners, and Resona Group.
