About

NorcSi develops a patented silicon anode platform technology that enables the use of 100% pure silicon in battery anodes, delivering significantly higher energy density and charging rates compared to conventional graphite anodes. Silicon can store up to 10 times more lithium ions than graphite, but its volume expansion during charging has historically limited battery lifespan. NorcSi's patented thermal process, derived from semiconductor manufacturing, creates stable nanostructures within a thin layer of pure silicon that solve volume expansion, contact loss, and solid-electrolyte interface issues without requiring complex carbon-based nanowire structures. The anodes are produced using an industrially established roll-to-roll process on standard equipment, making them cost-effective and scalable for mass production. As a platform technology, the process is applicable to lithium-ion, lithium-sulfur, and solid-state batteries, with applications in electric vehicles, portable electronics, drones, and multicopters. Founded in 2020 and headquartered in Halle, Germany, the company has raised approximately $12.3M in Series A funding from investors including bmp Ventures, IBG Beteiligungsgesellschaft Sachsen-Anhalt, and Millennium Venture Capital.
