About

Ore Energy develops long-duration energy storage batteries using abundant, natural materials including iron, water, and air, addressing the critical gap in renewable energy storage that prevents full transition from fossil fuels. The company's Ore Battery operates on a reversible rusting principle: during discharge, the battery breathes in air and converts metallic iron into rust, and during charging, it breathes out air and converts rust back to metallic iron. This approach enables storage durations that go from hours to days, at a fraction of the cost of current battery technologies, while decreasing environmental impact through the use of materials found everywhere on the planet. The batteries are modular for easy scalability, low maintenance, recyclable, and non-flammable, eliminating the fire risk associated with conventional lithium-ion batteries. Ore Energy is on a fast track toward scaled production, with plans to connect its first batteries to the grid in the near term, produce at large scale by 2027, and help fully decarbonize the grid by the 2030s. The company targets the Terawatt-hours storage gap for renewable energy. Founded in 2022 and headquartered in Amsterdam and Delft, Netherlands, Ore Energy has raised $10.9M in seed funding from investors including Positron Ventures, FORWARD.one, and Plug and Play Tech Center.
