About

Saga Robotics is an agricultural robotics company that develops Thorvald, a multi-functional autonomous robot platform that provides chemical-free crop protection through UV-C light treatment for powdery mildew control and simultaneously collects crop data through integrated cameras and sensors. Thorvald is currently treating strawberries and grapevines, with proven results across multiple commercial operations worldwide including approximately 2,500 acres of grapevine in the US and 30% of tabletop strawberries in the UK. The robot achieves 70-100% reduction in pesticide use in grapevine and strawberries, has driven 300,000 km autonomously in real farm operations, protected 4 million bottles of wine with UV-C treatment, and treated 1 billion strawberries with minimal to no synthetic pesticides. While treating crops with UV-C light, Thorvald's two cameras scan every row, counting flowers and fruits and collecting data about ripeness, delivering accurate farm-wide flower and fruit counts every 4 days through a fully integrated data tool with no extra equipment or labor required. The robot features all-wheel drive, all-wheel steering, and a rugged design suitable for polytunnels, open fields, and vineyards. Saga Robotics operates a Robots-as-a-Service business model with proven positive unit economics and tangible grower value creation. Customers report excellent powdery mildew control, 15% rises in production due to lower mildew levels, and the cleanest Chardonnay fruit seen. In the 2025 California wine grape season, the company achieved a 10x increase in acres under treatment and expects to nearly triple treated acreage again, having treated almost 1,300 acres of vineyards in California. Partners include Bonterra Organic Estates, Bien Nacido, WB Chambers Farms, and LM Porter. Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Ski, Norway, Saga Robotics has raised $43.8M in Series C funding from investors including Aker ASA, Nysno, Rabo Investments, Hatteland, Propagator Ventures, Cibus Fund, Europa, Blystad, Melesio, MP Pensjon, SANDEN HOLDINGS CORPORATION, Praesidium, and Aggrator.
