About

SEED-X develops an AI-powered seed phenotyping platform that uses computer vision and deep learning algorithms to identify genotypic traits from a seed's phenotypical appearance, enabling non-destructive identification of seed quality, genetic purity, germination probability, and vigor without genetic testing or plant-level phenotyping. The company's GeNee technology platform includes four products: GeNee Envision (an AI seed research analysis tool providing actionable insights for seed research, breeding programs, and seed production), GeNee Sorter (AI-powered seed-by-seed sorting and qualification according to use cases, integrated into optical sorting machinery through partnerships with manufacturers like PETKUS), GeNee Detect (a seed and grain imaging, detection, and classification system enabling seed-level phenotyping), and GeNee Sorter OS f3.0 AI (a next-generation AI-enhanced seed sorting machine developed with PETKUS). SEED-X's technology collects thousands of parameters from each seed image (versus a few morphological parameters in traditional optical sorting) and trains algorithms to find correlations between these parameters and desired use cases including germination level, usable plant vigor, seed uniformity, genetic purity (self, out-cross, technical failure), plant debris, blind seeds, and ploidy level. The company operates four service centers, collaborates with 50+ seed companies worldwide, has 50 repeat customers, works across 30 different crops (focusing on premium vegetable seeds including tomato, pepper, watermelon, melon, squash, cucumber, and brassicas), and commercially upgrades more than 2,000kg of premium vegetable seeds. Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware, with operations in Israel and the Netherlands, SEED-X has raised $20 million in a Series A round backed by iAngels, Neva SGR, Champel Capital, Food Lab Capital, Tal Ventures, and Nacre Capital.
