Supercritical is a clean technology company developing the world’s first high-pressure, ultra-efficient membraneless electrolyzer for producing zero-emission green hydrogen and oxygen from water. The company’s novel cell assembly eliminates the need for a membrane entirely, reducing costs and improving reliability while operating at 220 bar pressure and targeting over 90% Higher Heating Value (HHV) stack efficiency. This approach negates the need for hydrogen gas compressors, a major cost and maintenance burden in conventional systems. Supercritical’s technology uses no scarce critical materials such as iridium, PFAS chemicals, or rare earth metals, and features an all-metal design that is fully recyclable at end of life. The company targets industrial decarbonization applications including ammonia production, methanol synthesis, refineries, steel, cement, and mining. Founded in 2020 and headquartered in London, United Kingdom, Supercritical has raised approximately $21 million in Series A funding. Investors include Jericho Energy Ventures, Lowercarbon Capital, Shell, Toyota Ventures, New Energy Technology, and the Net Zero Technology Centre. Partners include Beam Suntory, BHP, Anglo American, and Scottish Power.
