About

Tsubame BHB develops on-site ammonia production systems that synthesize ammonia at low temperature and low pressure using proprietary electride catalysts. A spin-off from the Tokyo Institute of Science (formerly Tokyo Institute of Technology), the company challenges the conventional model of centralized, large-scale ammonia production by enabling decentralized manufacturing wherever water, air, and electricity are available, including remote locations. Its small-scale plant technology supports flexible ammonia supply for energy storage, fuel, and industrial applications. Tsubame BHB has delivered its first on-site ammonia synthesis equipment to INPEX's Kashiwazaki Hydrogen Park and has collaborated with Mizuho Bank on green hydrogen and ammonia projects in Africa. Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Yokohama, Japan, the company has raised approximately $35.3 million at the Series C stage, with investors including Development Bank of Japan, Ajinomoto, INPEX Corporation, Idemitsu Kosan, and Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank.
