Overview
MNT-Halan is an Egyptian fintech company, founded in 2018 by Mounir Nakhla and Ahmed Mohsen, that provides digital financial services to unbanked and underbanked consumers and small businesses through its Halan super-app. Its offerings span mobile banking, microfinance and nano loans, asset-based lending, and payments, built on Neuron, a proprietary core banking system the company describes as the first of its kind in the Middle East and Africa. The company uses machine learning on alternative data sources for credit scoring, and it became Egypt's first fintech unicorn, later expanding into Turkey, the UAE, and Pakistan. MNT-Halan has raised significant institutional backing, including a $157.5 million round in 2024, and has been recognized on the Financial Times' list of Africa's fastest-growing companies.
