Overview
Plaid is a financial data network that connects banks and other financial institutions to the fintech applications people use, enabling developers to build products that read account balances, verify identity, categorize transactions, and process payments. It supports connectivity to more than 12,000 financial institutions across roughly 20 countries and offers services including ACH, RTP, and FedNow payment processing, identity verification and fraud detection, and credit underwriting and income verification. Plaid states that roughly one in two banked adults in the United States uses a product built on its infrastructure, and that it processes over one million daily account connections. The company frames its more recent AI initiatives as infrastructure that helps other companies build smarter financial products, drawing on its aggregated financial data, while giving consumers control over their shared data through a self-service Plaid Portal.
