Overview

RightCapital sells financial planning software to advice firms, built on its own calculation engine covering retirement projection, tax aware distribution modeling, student loan analysis, insurance and estate views and a client portal. Founded in 2015 in Shelton, Connecticut and used by thousands of advisers, it grew as the modern challenger to two long established planning packages and ships a migration tool aimed specifically at users of one of them. Two artificial intelligence capabilities arrived in 2026. Smart Import reads documents uploaded into the platform, identifies which of their contents are relevant to a financial plan and translates them into plan inputs, which the company reports cuts manual data entry time by at least 70 percent. Iris, launched in June 2026, is a planning agent working inside the adviser's existing workflow rather than as a separate assistant, with three published functions: a check that scans a client profile for missing fields and internal inconsistencies that would undermine a plan, a review of cash flow that surfaces anomalies, questionable assumptions and future gaps, and a builder that takes a target probability of success and returns three strategies constructed by varying inputs such as retirement age or spending. It also answers planning questions and explains results in language an adviser can pass to a client, and a separate assistant answers questions about the platform itself. The company states a specific design constraint: every output originates from its own calculation engine, so the agent surfaces results the verified engine produced rather than generating them from outside sources. Firms control which staff may use the agent, and it carries no additional charge on the upper two subscription tiers.
