Overview
Slice is an RBI-licensed small finance bank in India that grew out of SlicePay, a fintech founded in 2016 offering buy-now-pay-later credit lines to students and young professionals. After receiving an NBFC license in 2019 and completing a merger with North East Small Finance Bank in 2024, Slice expanded from digital lending into full banking, including zero-balance savings accounts, UPI-linked credit cards, and business banking, all insured through DICGC. The company opened India's first UPI-powered physical bank branch and ATM and offers a flagship UPI credit card with no joining or annual fee. Slice primarily serves India's new-to-credit population, including students, fresh graduates, and gig workers historically excluded from traditional banking, using machine-learning credit scoring on alternative data, and is backed by investors including Tiger Global, Insight Partners, and Blume Ventures.
