Baselayer Raises $35M in Series A to Transform AI Identity Verification

Round Series A
Amount $35M
Date 24 Sept 2026

Baselayer has successfully completed a $35 million Series A funding round aimed at enhancing its revolutionary identity verification technology for artificial intelligence agents. This latest funding builds upon the startup's total of approximately $40 million since its inception in 2023, underscoring its rapid growth trajectory.

Founded in February 2023 by Jonathan Awad and Timothy Hyde, Baselayer is reshaping how financial institutions assess fraud risk and verify business identities. By integrating fraud detection, credit, and business identity data, the company provides services to banks, fintech firms, and other financial entities. Its platform has rapidly gained traction, serving over 2,000 financial institutions across the U.S., which represents a significant portion of the sector. Baselayer’s solutions not only streamline onboarding processes but also help in risk assessment, allowing organizations to onboard and interact with merchants efficiently.

M13 led the recent funding round, with participation from notable investors including Picus Capital, Torch Capital, and Afore Capital, as well as Matt Thompson from Socure. This influx of capital is critical for Baselayer as it prepares to roll out its newly developed Agentic Identity Suite. This suite aims to address a crucial emerging issue: the verification of AI agents acting on behalf of individuals or businesses. In a landscape where AI functionality increases daily, the challenge lies in distinguishing between legitimate AI actions and potentially harmful bot activity.

The new funding will be essential for Baselayer to develop its “Know Your Agent” (KYA) system. This innovative framework is designed to authenticate the identity of AI agents, facilitating trust between businesses and their digital representatives. By integrating mechanisms that enable AI agents to present verified credentials during transactions, Baselayer ensures that authorized actions can be performed without the fear of fraud. Such advancements are crucial, considering the rise of AI automation and the risks associated with unauthorized interactions.

For founders and companies within the fintech sector, Baselayer's funding round is a significant marker of where the market is headed. As more enterprises explore AI capabilities, the demand for reliable identity verification for AI agents will only intensify. Baselayer’s innovative approach to combining data from multiple verification sources positions it as a front-runner in creating standards for AI interactions in finance and beyond. The successful funding is indicative of an increasing recognition of the importance of securing AI functionality, suggesting that startups addressing similar issues may soon follow suit.

Looking ahead, Baselayer is poised to redefine standards for AI security and verification within the financial sector. With its ambitious plans to launch the new Agentic Identity Suite, the company aims to not only advance its technology but also to collaborate with agents, payment processors, and other stakeholders in the industry. The successful execution of its KYA system could set a precedent for how AI agents are utilized across various sectors, ensuring a safer environment for digital transactions moving forward.
