Proxima Fusion

Proxima Fusion is Europe's fastest-growing fusion energy company, building the first generation of commercial fusion power plants using quasi-isodynamic (QI) stellarator technology. As the first spin-out from the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP), the company leverages decades of research behind the record-breaking Wendelstein 7-X stellarator, combining advances in stellarator optimization, computational design, and high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet technology. Its roadmap includes the Stellaris fusion power plant concept published in 2025, completion of the Stellarator Model Coil in 2027, an Alpha Demonstration Stellarator in the early 2030s, and commercial power plants in the late 2030s. Founded in 2023 and headquartered in Munich, Germany, Proxima Fusion has raised approximately $211.2M in Series A funding from investors including Balderton Capital, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Cherry Ventures, Redalpine, UVC Partners, Bayern Kapital, and the Max Planck Foundation.
