About

Sonair is a sensor technology company developing 3D ultrasonic sensors for autonomous robot safety and industrial machine safety. The company’s ADAR (Acoustic Detection and Ranging) technology uses dense ultrasonic arrays and real-time processing to provide full 3D spatial awareness, monitoring a 180-degree by 180-degree field of view with up to 4 meters of sensing range and 2 cm range precision. Unlike safety-certified LiDAR which samples the world in a 2D plane, ADAR monitors a full 3D volume using a continuous ultrasonic wave field, enabling detection of low or hanging obstacles, glass, reflective surfaces, and low-contrast objects that challenge optical sensors. The ADAR One sensor is SIL 2 and PL d certified, making it the world’s first safety-certified 3D ultrasonic sensor suitable for functional safety applications per IEC 61508 and ISO 13849 standards. It features 128 configurable safety zones, 112 ms response time, and under 5W power consumption. Applications include mobile robots in warehouses, factories, logistics, retail, and hospitals, as well as machine safety in robot cells, palletizers, CNC machine tending, and packaging lines. Built on 25 years of research at SINTEF, the technology won the DIRA Teknologiprisen 2025 and Best Product LogiMAT 2026 awards. Founded in 2022 and headquartered in Oslo, Norway, the company has raised approximately $12 million in Series A funding. Investors include Skyfall Ventures, ProVenture, Scale Capital, Investinor, RunwayFBU, Stratel, StartupLab, and SINTEF.
